Four unities of joint tenancy – Singapore property for rent/ sale
Singapore property for rent/ sale – In a joint tenancy, the characteristics of the “four unities” are as follows:
- Unity of time: All the co-owners must acquire the property at the same time.
- Unity of title: All the co-owners must have the same title to the property. If a condition applies to one owner and not another, there is no unity of title.
- Unity of interest: Each co-owner has an equal right to any profit made from the property. If the property generates any income e.g. rent, each co-owner is entitled to an equal share of that income.
- Unity of possession: All the co-owners must have an equal right to possess the whole property
