Help families to live closer – HDB flats for sale

The Minister for National Development, Khaw Boon Wan announced that the Government is taking steps to further help families live close to one another. This follows feedback and suggestions received at the series of Housing Conversations on “Closer Families, Stronger Ties” held earlier this year. HDB flats for sale.

HDB will enhance the Married Child Priority Scheme (MCPS) from this month’s Build-To-Order (BTO) and Sale of Balance Flats (SBF) exercises. MCPS applicants, who make up about one quarter of flat bookings at each exercise, can look forward to the following changes. HDB flats for sale.

HDB will set aside a certain proportion of the new flat supply for parents and married children who wish to live close to one another. Under the enhanced MCPS, up to 30% of the flat supply will be set aside for MCPS first-timer families and up to 15% for second-timer families. (See Table 1). HDB flats for sale.

Previously, families who wish to live with or near each other received extra ballot chances for their new flat application under the MCPS. HDB flats for sale.

With effect from November’s BTO and SBF exercises, the MCPS will be converted from a chance-based to a quota-based priority scheme to offer such applicants significantly higher chances of success. HDB flats for sale.

Under the enhanced MCPS, first priority will be extended to two groups of applicants:

  • Parents and married children who apply for a flat to live together under one roof; and
  • Parents who own a flat in a mature estate, and who apply for a BTO flat in a non-mature estate to move near to their married child.
